BOARD OF SELECTMEN – Executive Session Minutes
Present: Chairman Stan Moss, Edith Morgan and Jon Fudeman with T.A. Nina Nazarian
Executive Session
7:45 PM The three selectmen took roll call vote in regular session and opened executive session, with Fire Chief John Bennett in attendance. Nina reported that Bennett currently has no contract and is requesting his annual part-time salary increased from $30,000 ($2,500/month) to $35,000 and a three-year contract. Group discussed facts such as Mr. Bennett’s full-time job and extensive hours as a vice president at FlexCon in Spencer, and he noted his helicopter-leasing business and various boards on which he serves. He also discussed recent loss of two deputy chiefs and wishes to promote from within. The two, Andy Defresne and Ken Whitney, were essential for grant-writing and haz-mat expertise. In an update, Bennett reported that the Fire Dept. fleet of vehicles will now meet
DOT standards, and that the town now has a complete staff of (on-call) EMTs and paramedics. The group also discussed software used for incident-reporting and payroll.
Bennett distributed a table showing pay scales of fire chiefs in surrounding towns.
Selectmen had initially discussed Bennett’s requests during an executive session in July, but had decided to meet with him after September. They agreed to take the matter under advisement.
8:12 PM Selectmen closed the executive session without returning to regular session, with Stan making a motion to adjourn, Jon seconded and in roll call vote they adjourned with Jon, Edith and Stan each saying “aye.”
